What better way to celebrate the warm weather (FINALLY!) than stocking up for your next BBQ? Last week we sent fundraiser forms home with all ÉDS students for our Meat & Cheese Fundraiser supported by Timothy's Country Butcher and Bothwell Cheese.
The funds raised will be going toward the following: (1) Maintaining and upgrading current equipment, (2) Healthy snack food, and (3) Costs for in-person tournaments. This allows us to continue to be competitive and to open our program to more and more students. This fundraiser is the primary source of funding for our entire program annually.
So why support our school esports program? Our program offers our students a community focused around creating healthy gaming habits and friendships while developing the skills that traditional sports offer, such as communication, creative and critical thinking, and leadership skills. Many of the students that we serve have never worn a team jersey before or been put into a leadership position in a competition setting. Our program is heavily social in nature and students develop new relationships and learn about how to be responsible digital citizens rather than basement-dwelling keyboard warriors, and all the while they are supported by teachers who are there to support them and model appropriate behaviours. We support it at the school because living in a rural community where access to internet and equipment to compete is more expensive and less equitable than other areas of the province. So, while you will be stocking up your freezer, you will also be providing a unique, engaging, and educational opportunity to our students!
Thank you for all of your support. Please get fundraiser forms and money returned to your classroom teacher by Wednesday, May 8th.
