Principal’s Message
École Dugald School is a dual track, French Immersion/English program, K-8 school. Our students come from the Dugald catchment for our English program and throughout the Springfield area for French Immersion, including Oakbank, Anola and Hazelridge. We emphasize literacy and numeracy at all grades, making an effort to build these skills into the curriculum wherever possible. Community and leadership building opportunities are also a focus for our planning where we promote the development of socially responsible citizens who are active learners. Students have opportunities for leadership in roles such as reading or bus buddies, lunch monitors, running activity days, and canteen program delivery. We make every effort to be inclusive and supportive and build a positive learning community.
We have a strong K-8 Music program at our school, including Orff, Choir, Recorder, Band, Jazz Band and Marching Band. Our students participate in team sports within the Sunrise league, and have many opportunities for extra-curricular physical activities at lunch hour each day and as additional field trips. Our French Immersion students have opportunities for academic and cultural enrichment with the French language and we incorporate both languages in assemblies and whole grade activities. The school offers Reading Recovery as well as literacy and numeracy support with the assistance of our Student Services Team.
We have an active and supportive Dugald Parent Advisory Council (DPAC), who volunteer at school events, support school goals and initiatives, and fundraise to support many events and activities and school initiatives. They also coordinate our, monthly pizza hot lunch fundraiser, and student events such as the skating day and June Family BBQ. Thank you to our many parents who volunteer at the school, support our fundraisers, and assist us in making Dugald a great place to learn and work.

École Dugald School is located on Treaty One territory, the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Metis Nation. We respect the treaties made on this land and acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past. Our acknowledgment shows our gratitude for the land on which we gather, and our commitment in moving forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of truth, reconciliation and collaboration.
In keeping with our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, we acknowledge the important role that education and schools play to ensure we collectively take time to think about, learn about, honour, and remember those who attended residential and day schools and those who did not come home. Facing difficult truths helps us on our paths toward Truth and Reconciliation.
